The “Pre-Game Lobby” Workout Routine

Eight years ago, I was running track, cross country, and training for the mini-marathon. Since I was only 15, I couldn’t drive to the gym which meant I had to get creative with my at-home workouts but at the same time, I was playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 like it was a full-time job. So, I created the “Pre-Game Lobby” workout routine to stay in shape while staying on top of my gaming. Needless to say, I play a lot more games than just MW2 and because of that, I’ve had to adjust my routine in order to fit not only multiplayer shooters, but also single player campaigns and (recently) battle royales. If you want to play games without the guilt of being “unhealthy,” here you go:

  • Multiplayer Shooters (non-battle royale)
    • At the end of each game, take your number of kills (x) and subtract your number of deaths (y)
      • If the result is positive, do that number of pushups x2
      • If the result is negative, do that number of tricep dips x2
      • If the result is zero, do 30 seconds of plank
      • If you didn’t win the game, multiply your result by four instead of two
  • Battle Royale (Fortnite, duh)
    • Solo
      • 30 minus (your kills) equals number of pushups to do
      • 1 second plank for every player left once you die
      • However many kills your killer had, subtract that from 50 and do that many tricep dips
    • Duos
      • 5 pushups for every kill your duo had (total)
      • 2 seconds plank for your duo’s final placement
      • However many kills your killer had, subtract that from 50 and do that many tricep dips
    • Squads
      • 3 pushups for every kill your team had (total)
      • 4 seconds plank for your duo’s final placement
      • However many kills your killer had, subtract that from 50 and do that many tricep dips
  • Single-Player Campaigns
    • Before playing xth campaign in a series, run that many miles (i.e. Far Cry 3 is 3 miles)
    • Every achievement or trophy you unlock, do 20 pushups
    • Every chapter/level/mission you complete, do 20 tricep dips
    • Every time you beat a game, plank for 1 minute

As you can see, this is a routine that will get/keep you in shape all while you’re having fun gaming as usual. One motto I live by is “Don’t choose to be active or lazy. Kick ass at both,” and it’s been very rewarding giving just as much attention to what keeps me physically healthy as what keeps me mentally happy. Feel free to change any aspects of the routine to fit your style more and let me know what you think about it! If you stick with this, it yields great results and these are all workouts that can be done without a single piece of exercise equipment (if you have some, I recommend using those as well or instead).

If you’d like to get more into gaming, check out yesterday’s post regarding the ELITE GAME CHALLENGE which would be right up your alley!

Anyways, thanks for reading and I’ll see you soon!
